Veldfire Response – California Plots, Letsitele
Incident Date: 6 September 2025 Location: California Plots, Letsitele OB/0004
Initial Reports:
On 6 September 2025, reports were received of a veldfire burning in the California Plots area near Letsitele.
The occurrence-book record shows that the first reports of the fire were received during the morning. At approximately 13:30, Asterix was directly contacted and assistance was requested as the incident required additional firefighting resources.
A request for further assistance was subsequently communicated through the relevant operational fire-response channels.
Asterix Response:
Asterix The Long Firefighting Dog NPC – Fire & Emergency Support Service was dispatched at approximately 13:55.
Two crew members responded with a skid-unit firefighting vehicle and arrived at the incident at approximately 14:20.
The response vehicle covered approximately 50 kilometres during the operation.
Situation on Arrival:
The fire was burning through grass and bush vegetation in the California Plots area.
The operational report recorded a Fire Danger Index of 46 – Yellow.
Weather conditions recorded during the incident included:
Temperature: Approximately 26°C
Humidity: Approximately 50%
Wind: Approximately 15–20 km/h
The cause of the fire was not established in the operational report.
Approximately 6 hectares were recorded as having been affected.
Actions Taken:
Asterix assisted with active fire-suppression operations using its skid unit.
Additional firefighting resources were requested as the incident developed, and other responding resources were deployed to assist with bringing the fire under control.
No aerial firefighting support was activated during the Asterix response, and no fire-suppression chemicals were recorded as having been used.
No equipment damage or malfunction was reported.
Outcome:
The veldfire was recorded as contained at approximately 16:31, after which responding units were able to stand down.
The Asterix team subsequently returned to the office at approximately 17:00.
No damage to infrastructure or other property was recorded on the wildfire response report.
Cooperation:
The response involved cooperation with other firefighting resources operating in the area.
The occurrence-book record shows that additional resources were requested through the operational fire-response network and that a Tzaneen firefighting resource was subsequently dispatched to assist.
Wildfire incidents such as this demonstrate the importance of coordinated response, particularly when fires spread through open grass and bush vegetation.
