Initial Report:
At approximately 14:00 on Wednesday, 1 April 2026, Asterix The Long Firefighting Dog NPC – Fire & Emergency Support Service responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on the R36 on Twin Bridges, between Tzaneen and Merensky High School.
Initial information indicated that a single vehicle was involved.
Situation on Arrival:
On arrival, responders confirmed that one motor vehicle had been involved in the accident.
The driver was found entrapped inside the vehicle and could not be safely removed without the use of specialised rescue equipment.
The situation therefore required a coordinated rescue and medical response.
Extrication Operation:
Responders worked to create safe access to the trapped driver and carry out the necessary extrication.
Specialised rescue equipment was used to free the patient from the damaged vehicle while medical personnel continued monitoring and stabilising the patient.
Extrication operations require careful coordination because responders must gain access to the patient without causing unnecessary movement or additional injury.
The patient was successfully freed from the vehicle.
Medical Care and Transport:
Following extrication, the patient was stabilised on scene.
The patient was then handed over to ER24, who transported the patient to the nearest appropriate medical facility for further assessment and treatment.
Asterix provided emergency and rescue support as part of the coordinated response and did not provide ambulance transport.
