Fire Safety Visit – Ruach Akademie

Ruach Akademie Category - Community Fire-Safety Education
Learning About Firefighting: On 7 November 2025, Asterix The Long Firefighting Dog NPC – Fire & Emergency Support Service visited Ruach Akademie for a morning of practical fire-safety education and hands-on learning with the school's young learners. The aim of the visit was to introduce the children to the world of firefighting in an age-appropriate and enjoyable way while teaching them an important message: fire is not something to play with, and knowing what to do during an emergency can make a real difference.
What Does a Firefighter Do? The learners were introduced to some of the equipment and protective clothing used during firefighting operations and were shown what firefighters do when responding to an emergency. The programme gave the children an opportunity to learn about: What firefighters do during a fire. Why firefighters wear specialised protective clothing. Some of the equipment carried on a firefighting vehicle. What different firefighting nozzles are used for. How water behaves differently depending on the type and setting of a nozzle. What children should and should not do if they discover a fire. Why an adult or emergency service should be alerted immediately when something is burning.
Teaching Fire Safety From a Young Age: Fire-safety awareness should begin early. Children who understand that matches, lighters and fires are dangerous—and who know that they should call an adult, move to safety and never hide during a fire—are better prepared should they ever encounter a real emergency. Community visits such as this are therefore about much more than showing children a fire truck or letting them hold a hose. They are an opportunity to build respect for fire, introduce basic emergency awareness and develop safer habits from a young age.
Making Learning Memorable: The Ruach Akademie learners embraced the experience with tremendous enthusiasm. There is something very special about watching young children discover how firefighting equipment works, experience the power of a hose nozzle for the first time and proudly try on protective clothing that is almost bigger than they are. By making fire-safety education interactive and enjoyable, important lessons can stay with children long after the demonstration has ended. Asterix sincerely thanks Ruach Akademie for the opportunity to spend time with the learners and for helping us promote fire awareness and safer communities from an early age.
