Asterix Appointed as iER Service Provider – Greater Tzaneen

An Important Operational Milestone Date: 19 November 2025
On 19 November 2025, Asterix The Long Firefighting Dog NPC – Fire & Emergency Support Service announced its appointment as an iER (Integrated Emergency Response) service provider for the Greater Tzaneen region. The appointment represented an important step in the continued development of Asterix's emergency-response capability and provided another channel through which emergency incidents in the area could be dispatched to the team. At the time of the announcement, Asterix recorded the appointment as making it the first iER service provider in Limpopo Province.
Connecting Emergency Alerts to Local Response: iER operates a national emergency-response platform through which users can send emergency alerts from the iER mobile application. The app uses the location information from the user's mobile device when an emergency alert is submitted, helping the iER response centre determine where assistance is required. Depending on the nature of an incident and the resources required, iER can connect an emergency to appropriate medical or non-medical response services within its network. For Asterix, joining this network meant that qualifying emergency incidents within its operational area could also be referred through the iER system.
Why Accurate Location Matters: One of the practical advantages of app-based emergency reporting is the ability to transmit a caller's location together with the emergency alert. This can be particularly valuable where: The caller does not know the exact street address. An incident occurs on a rural road or agricultural property. A motor vehicle accident occurs between recognised landmarks. A person reporting an emergency is unfamiliar with the area. The responding team needs accurate location information to identify the incident quickly. Reliable location information can assist dispatchers and responding services in determining where resources are required.
The iER Emergency Network: iER provides access to a 24-hour emergency response centre and a nationwide network of medical and non-medical emergency services. Through the platform, users can request assistance for emergencies that may require services such as: Medical emergency response Police or security assistance Fire services Search and rescue Veldfire management Other emergency and public-safety resources The appropriate response is determined according to the nature and location of the reported emergency.
Part of Asterix's Operational Development: Becoming an iER service provider formed part of Asterix's broader development as a community-focused fire and emergency support service. The appointment expanded the ways in which incidents could reach the Asterix team and strengthened connections between local response capability and a national emergency-dispatch network. It also marked an important point in the organisation's operational history as Asterix continued developing its dispatch systems, partnerships and emergency-response capability across the Greater Tzaneen area.
Using the iER App: The iER mobile application is available free of charge and provides users with access to the iER emergency-response centre. When an emergency alert is submitted through the app, the user's location and incident information can be provided to the response centre so that appropriate assistance can be identified and coordinated. The iER platform operates independently of Asterix's own emergency contact channels. Residents should always use the emergency-reporting method most appropriate and immediately available to them.
