Initial Report:
On 12 January 2026, Asterix The Long Firefighting Dog NPC – Fire & Emergency Support Service issued an urgent traffic warning following the collapse of a gabion embankment on the R71 Magoebaskloof Pass.
The collapse occurred between The Viewpoint and Magoebaskloof Mountain Lodge and resulted in an obstruction of the roadway.

The descending lane was obstructed and closed to traffic as a result of material from the collapsed embankment affecting the roadway.
