Fatal Multi-Vehicle Accident – R36 Mokgolobotho

Initial Report:
At approximately 23:30 on 29 May 2026, Asterix The Long Firefighting Dog NPC – Fire & Emergency Support Service received an urgent request for assistance following reports of a serious motor vehicle accident on the R36 at Mokgolobotho.
Initial information indicated that multiple people were trapped following the collision.
At the time the call was received, the Asterix team had only recently departed from another motor vehicle accident scene and was returning to base.
The team immediately redirected to the new incident, while additional emergency services and available resources were activated.
Situation on Arrival:
On arrival, responding crews established that the collision involved two motor vehicles and a motorcycle.
Several people had sustained serious injuries, and multiple patients were trapped in the wreckage.
The incident required an extensive coordinated emergency response involving medical care, scene stabilisation and complex extrication operations.
Sadly, the collision resulted in several fatalities.
Out of respect for those who lost their lives, the injured and their families, no graphic details or unnecessary personal information are included in this permanent incident record.
Rescue and Extrication Operations:
Emergency personnel immediately began working to stabilise the scene and assist those involved.
The response included:
Assessment and treatment of injured patients.
Stabilisation of the accident scene.
Rescue and extrication of trapped occupants.
Coordination between emergency and medical services.
Traffic and scene-safety management.
Towing and vehicle-recovery operations.

Multiple Fatalities:
Despite the efforts of the emergency personnel on scene, several people lost their lives as a result of the collision.

A Significant Operational Night for Asterix:
The Mokgolobotho collision occurred immediately after the Asterix team had attended another motor vehicle accident earlier that same operational period.
It therefore became the first occasion on which Asterix responded to two major motor vehicle accidents back-to-back during a single period of operations.
While this is not a milestone any emergency organisation wishes to achieve through tragedy, it demonstrated the importance of maintaining equipment, communications, personnel and response systems in a state of readiness even after completing an earlier incident.
Emergency response does not always provide an opportunity to return to base, rest or reset before the next call arrives.
Sometimes one incident ends and another begins almost immediately.
Multi-Agency Cooperation:
Serious motor vehicle accidents involving entrapment and multiple casualties require close cooperation between many different services.
