Fatal Motorcycle Collision – R71, Tzaneen
Incident Date: 13 December 2025 Location: R71 between Du Roi Nursery and Letaba Junction, Tzaneen area
Initial Report:
During the night of 13 December 2025, the Asterix dispatch centre received a call reporting a motor vehicle accident on the R71 between Du Roi Nursery and Letaba Junction.
Asterix The Long Firefighting Dog NPC – Fire & Emergency Support Service responded to the incident.
Situation on Arrival:
On arrival, responders found that the incident involved a motor vehicle and a motorcycle.
The collision was severe.
Sadly, the motorcycle rider had sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.
The motor vehicle had a single occupant, who required medical attention following the collision.
Asterix Response:
Asterix assisted with emergency scene operations alongside the other responding services.
The surviving occupant of the motor vehicle was attended to and subsequently transported by an appropriate ambulance service to hospital for further medical assessment and treatment.
Asterix did not provide ambulance transport.
Recovery Operations:
Due to the severity of the collision, the incident required an extended recovery and scene-support operation.
Responding teams worked together carefully and respectfully to complete the necessary recovery activities at the scene.
Asterix remained involved for several hours until the required recovery work had been completed.
Outcome:
One person, the motorcycle rider, unfortunately died at the scene.
The sole occupant of the motor vehicle was transported to hospital for further medical care.
The incident remained active for several hours while emergency personnel completed recovery and scene operations.
Cooperation:
This was a difficult incident that required close cooperation between the various emergency and support personnel present.
The coordinated effort allowed the medical response, recovery work and other scene responsibilities to be completed safely and respectfully.
Asterix acknowledges all personnel who assisted during what was an exceptionally difficult nighttime emergency response.

Motorists and motorcyclists are urged to:
Remain alert and avoid distractions while driving.
Adjust speed to visibility, traffic and road conditions.
Allow sufficient following and stopping distance.
Look carefully for motorcycles, particularly at night.
Ensure vehicles and motorcycles are roadworthy and properly illuminated.
Never drive while impaired by alcohol, drugs or severe fatigue.
If you encounter a serious road accident, contact emergency services immediately, stop only where it is safe to do so, and avoid entering the active scene unless assistance is specifically required.
Out of respect for those involved, members of the public should also avoid photographing or sharing images of deceased or seriously injured persons.
