On 28 January 2026, Asterix The Long Firefighting Dog NPC – Fire & Emergency Support Service confirmed its approval as a registered participant in the Eyes and Ears Initiative (E2).
The approval represented another important milestone in Asterix's continued development and strengthened the organisation's ability to participate in structured information-sharing and coordination networks involving other approved role-players.
Asterix is officially listed on the E2 participant register as an approved participant in Limpopo, under the participant category Medical emergency service.
What Is the Eyes and Ears Initiative?
The Eyes and Ears Initiative forms part of a public-private cooperation framework involving the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Business Against Crime South Africa (BACSA).
The initiative facilitates structured information sharing, coordination and collaboration between SAPS and approved participating organisations.
The broader E2 framework is intended to improve situational awareness and the flow of relevant information between participating role-players.
