Initial Report:
At approximately 19:29 on 25 July 2026, reports were received of a motor vehicle accident on the R71 at the Martin Dale turn-off.
Asterix The Long Firefighting Dog NPC – Fire & Emergency Support Service responded as part of the emergency response to the incident.
Vehicle Fire:
After the occupants had been removed, the vehicle situated down the embankment caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.
The fact that the occupants had already been removed was particularly significant given the rapid escalation from a motor vehicle accident into an active vehicle fire.
Emergency personnel were therefore able to concentrate on managing the developing fire and overall scene without occupants remaining trapped inside the burning vehicle.
Asterix Response:
Asterix assisted alongside the other emergency services and role-players operating at the scene.
The combination of a nighttime road accident, steep terrain and a fully involved vehicle fire required careful coordination and awareness of the additional hazards created by the location.
Scene operations focused on maintaining safety, supporting the emergency response and managing the risks associated with the burning vehicle and surrounding accident scene.
Outcome:
Despite the seriousness of the collision and subsequent vehicle fire, no serious injuries were reported at the scene.
All occupants of the vehicle that travelled down the embankment had been safely removed before it became fully engulfed.
The incident was subsequently managed by the appropriate emergency, traffic, police and recovery services according to their respective responsibilities.
