Initial Report:
At approximately 18:59 on 26 July 2026, Asterix The Long Firefighting Dog NPC – Fire & Emergency Support Service received a call from a DA PR Councillor reporting a fire in a stormwater drain near CTM in Tzaneen.
An Asterix unit was immediately dispatched to investigate the reported fire.
Situation on Arrival:
Upon arrival, responders found that the fire had already largely burned itself out.
Some combustible material remained within the affected area, but there was no indication at that stage that the incident was actively spreading.
Asterix Response:
Rather than immediately leaving the scene because the visible fire had substantially diminished, the Asterix team remained in the area to monitor the remaining burning material.
The scene was observed until the remaining material had burned out completely and responders were satisfied that the area could be considered safe.
Outcome:
No further spread was reported during the Asterix response.
Once the remaining burning material had extinguished and the scene had been assessed as safe, the operation was concluded.
Cooperation:
Asterix thanks the councillor who reported the incident and helped ensure that the potential hazard was brought to the attention of emergency responders.
