EB’s Hardware Equipment Donation & Response Vehicle Lighting Upgrade - Equipment Support That Makes a Difference.
On 2 February 2026, Asterix The Long Firefighting Dog NPC – Fire & Emergency Support Service recognised the continued and generous support of EB’s Hardware and INGCO, whose equipment donations were helping to strengthen Asterix’s practical emergency-response capability.
Asterix extends its sincere appreciation to Christie Lauwrens and the team at EB’s Hardware for their continued support.
Their contributions have helped ensure that Asterix responders have access to practical, reliable equipment for use during fires, motor vehicle accidents, rescue operations and other emergencies.
Equipment Donated to Asterix:
Support received from EB’s Hardware and INGCO has included:
INGCO 8-inch cordless self-lubricating chainsaw,
4 × INGCO 1,800-lumen 20V lithium-ion portable lights,
2x INGCO 2000-lumen 20V lithium-ion spotlight,
INGCO 20V lithium-ion reciprocating saw,
Specialised vehicle-rescue blades for the reciprocating saw,
10 × road cones,
Several INGCO tool-protection boxes,
Multiple lithium-ion batteries.
Each of these items serves a practical operational purpose and has helped expand the equipment available to Asterix responders.
Response Vehicle Scene-Lighting Upgrade:
One of the most visible improvements resulting from this equipment support was the installation of dedicated high-output scene lighting on the Asterix response vehicle.
At the time of the original 2 February 2026 announcement, the first set of two 1,800-lumen lights had been installed, providing approximately 3,600 lumens of combined scene illumination.
These lights were mounted to provide broad illumination during emergency operations where natural or street lighting was insufficient.
Why Scene Lighting Matters:
Good lighting is critical during nighttime emergency operations.
Responders may need to work around damaged vehicles, patients, firefighting equipment, uneven ground, roadside hazards and moving traffic, often in extremely poor visibility.
Dedicated scene lighting assists with:
Motor vehicle accident scenes,
Night-time fire operations,
Rescue and recovery incidents,
Patient assessment and treatment areas,
Poor visibility and adverse weather,
Equipment setup after dark,
Roadside scene management,
Improving visibility for approaching motorists,
Identifying hazards around the operational area,
Better illumination improves situational awareness and creates a safer working environment for responders, patients and other emergency personnel.
System Later Expanded to Four Lights:
The original two-light installation was only the beginning.
Asterix subsequently expanded the system and the response vehicle is now equipped with four 1,800-lumen INGCO scene lights — two complete sets — mounted above the firefighting skid unit.
With all four lights available, the system provides approximately 7,200 lumens of combined rated light output.
The elevated mounting position above the skid unit allows light to spread across a wider incident area and provides greater flexibility when positioning the vehicle at fires, accident scenes and other nighttime emergencies.
The expanded four-light installation has become an important component of the vehicle’s operational setup.
Cutting and Rescue Capability:
The donated INGCO reciprocating saw, together with specialised vehicle-rescue blades, also added an important capability to Asterix’s equipment inventory.
A reciprocating saw can assist responders where appropriate cutting operations are required during vehicle accidents, rescue incidents and other emergencies.
The compact cordless chainsaw provides an additional cutting option for incidents involving fallen branches, storm damage, obstructed access and vegetation that may prevent responders from safely reaching an incident.
Portable Emergency Lighting:
The 2000-lumen portable spotlights and battery-powered lighting equipment provide additional flexibility away from the response vehicle.
Portable lighting is particularly valuable where responders need illumination in locations that cannot be reached or adequately covered by the vehicle-mounted lights.
Combined with the vehicle scene-lighting system, these resources significantly improved Asterix’s ability to operate after dark.
Roadside Safety Equipment:
The donated road cones also strengthened Asterix’s ability to establish a visible working area during roadside emergencies.
Traffic management at accident and emergency scenes remains inherently dangerous, particularly at night.
While cones alone cannot make a roadway safe, visible scene-marking equipment forms an important part of warning approaching motorists and establishing an operational area for responders.
Reliable Equipment Supporting Real Operations:
Emergency equipment is not simply accumulated for display.
The tools and equipment provided through this support have practical applications during genuine Asterix operations, including:
Fire responses,
Motor vehicle accidents,
Rescue and scene-support operations,
Fallen-tree incidents,
Storm-related emergencies,
Night-time responses,
Roadside emergencies. Reliable equipment allows responders to work more effectively and helps improve safety during difficult operations.
